FDM Materials & When to Use Them
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene)
Best material for most use cases
- Strong and heat-resistant
- Great for outdoor use, fluid containers, and wear-resistant parts
- Ideal for enclosures, brackets, and automotive parts
- Can be processed with direct sanding or polishing
- Shows high thermal shrinkage during printing – not suitable for large models
PLA (Polylactic Acid)
General-purpose prototypes, large prints
- Low shrinkage makes it a good choice for large models
- Good for decorative models and multicolor printing
- Requires advanced technologies for sanding or polishing
PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol)
Durable and chemical-resistant parts
- Good balance of strength and flexibility
- Less thermal shrinkage than ABS, making it suitable for large prints
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane)
Flexible parts like gaskets, seals, and phone cases
- Rubber-like flexibility and durability
- Withstands repeated bending and compression
- Excellent for soft or wearable items
Nylon (Polyamide)
High-strength, wear-resistant mechanical components
- Very durable with good fatigue resistance
- Ideal for gears, bushings, and industrial fixtures
Fiber-Reinforced Filaments
Lightweight parts with added stiffness and strength
- Extremely rigid and strong
- Available in ABS, PLA, PETG base blends
SLA Materials & When to Use Them
Standard Resin
Visual prototypes, early-stage concepts, and fit testing
- Affordable and fast to print
- Excellent surface detail
- Easy to paint and finish
Tough Resin
Functional parts that need strength and impact resistance
- Mimics ABS plastic
- Ideal for snap fits, enclosures, brackets, and jigs
- Withstands stress without cracking
Flexible Resin
Rubber-like parts, gaskets, grips, and wearable components
- Shore hardness between 50A–80A depending on formulation
- Good for prototyping soft-touch parts
- Durable under compression and bending
Clear Resin
Transparent glass-like models
- Good for decorative models
- May require additional casting compared to other materials
Biocompatible Resin (Medical/Dental)
Surgical guides, dental models, custom aligners
- Certified for short-term skin and mucosal contact
- Sterilizable and precise
- Available on request
